Evaluation Q6

Evaluation Question 6

When we did this task we had to use equipment so that our opening could be successful this includes our camera which is the Canon XHAI Camera. Other hardware we needed for this task was a tripod, microphone (attached to camera) and in our case LED light. We needed to use a tripod so that the shots we filmed were steady and perfectly stable. The microphone was needed so that we have clear natural sound during every take which would be just as important as the visual aspect of the shot. In our case we had to use an LED light because we had a gloomy and dark setting in some of our scenes which made the shots look clear but just as effective.

When we edited our opening we used the software Adobe Premiere. When we edited our opening we had to make sure we kept a natural effective during the day so it connotes how normal her life seems outside of her dream, which gives it that creepy effect. Whereas with the nightmare scenes we made it as dark and traumatic as possible so it adds that tension and suspense to the whole opening. So during the nightmare scenes we had to split the scenes quickly so everything happens quick and leaves it more of a mystery, whereas the day light scenes have longer takes (long take). During the nightmare scenes we used a spotlight effect to connote that the girl was important but also that she is the focus in the film. We edited our title sequence so that it had an aspect of a cut away shot as it would appear with a black background and you cannot see anything else which makes you focus on the titles but still build tension as to what’s going to show after the title is finished showing.  When I was filming I made sure that I didn’t go pass the 180 degree guideline as I kept to one side so of this axis for every shot in the scene, the first character will always be frame right of the second character, who is then always frame left of the first. This was a great way to make sure the continuity was used throughout the filming production, which therefore shows how professional our film was as a group.

EVALUATION Q5

Q5
Our film is created as a psychological thriller because our story is about a girl that has a nightmare and gets flashbacks of the dream, which slowly becomes reality throughout her day .Our film also includes aspects of an action thriller as it gradually shows a guy following the victims every move, which he will eventually ends up kidnapping the girl. We are going to use important aspects that have been picked out from other related film, such as the way our kidnapping scene should be portrayed, also how the atmosphere of the film should be to set to get that feeling of tension and suspense. The main themes in our sequence will be mostly based around kidnapping, which will be slowly developed throughout the sequence. As there will be range of clues/traces that will all be make sense and fit together to help the audience to know what the storyline is really portraying. The camera angles that would we used will also be used to explain and show what sort of characters our actors are portraying, such as tilted angles which helps build up some form of a story to the character, e.g. when the girl is running out of the house in fear of the kidnapper the angle of the shot is low angled and tilted upwards to show she has little power. The tilted angle shots to build suspense and tension, which will get the audience more involved. Long distance shots are also a very significant camera angle for a thrillers because it gives us and idea of how the characters feels due to the body language, it also gives the audience a great idea of the ambient the opening scene is trying to connote, which we used for some scenes such as when our character was walking fast away from her house looking for somewhere to escape to. The sound used in opening sequence is what will help set the tension and suspense as to what is going to happen, this will also help the audience have a better understanding of the characters. The location that our opening was set was a strong point that helped improve the film as in the scene where the torturing was taking place was made in a dark gloomy place which helped set the scene, as in contrast to the characters reality which was light, homely and normal; but after the dream happened the perspective of the traditional home changed in the audiences eyes as they would then start seeing the home as more creepy.

Evaluation Q3

Q3: In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real thrillers?
Our film is a thriller genre but it also includes some action and sociological aspects (sub-genres). It is a thriller because there is a lot of tension included in this movie along with some aspects of suspense. The action is the scenes where he is hurting her in her imagination; this could be seen as some action. The sociological aspect is the fact he is mysterious and maybe not even existing and possibly not even real and just in her dreams.

Evaluation Q2

Q2: Who will be the audience for your specific thriller? Explain which sub-genre you have chosen
My target audience should have these similarities and interests:
< My audience are an audience that enjoy thrillers a lot with a little bit of action in there as they should enjoy films that include a lot of tension
My audience will be mostly male

I chose to target this group of people because I felt like they were the ones that will end up going to watch my film. I think that my target audience will expect little shocks here and there but mainly followed by a large amount of tension. The thing that will attract my target audience is the story line as it will make them think they are going to know what happens but they really don’t. If I was to make a poster to attract my target audience I would make it dark with just the villain and victim in the photo and the villain is behind her and got his hand over her mouth but still stays mysterious. I think my target audience will be interested in films like ‘Taken’ including Taken 1 and 2 these films include a lot of tension and also a little action.
